Chetro Ketl was one of the later great houses constructed in Chaco Canyon. Archeological evidence suggests construction began about 1000 and occupation lasted through 1100 A.D. It is located at the base of the massive cliff of the lower Cliff House Sandstone. The meaning of the name is unknown but it is probably Navajo in origin.
