Pueblo del Arroyo. An abundance of wood was needed in the construction of the great houses and dwelling at Chaco Canyon. Today the closest source of wood similar to the logs used in the construction at Chaco is about 60 miles away. Evaluation of the wood used in construction suggests that the logs were cut, debarked, and sanded before they were carried in from elsewhere.
