Colorado National Monument
This view is looking down on the Rim Rock Drive—the main route through the national monument. This view shows the massive cliffs of the Wingate Sandstone above the red, shaley slopes of the underlying Chinle Formation. Gray Precambrian-age rocks are exposed inside the loop in the road and along the stream bed. The very cap of the cliff consists of another Lower Jurassic-age sandstone called the Kayenta Formation.
