Colorado National Monument
This view is looking down on the Rim Rock Drive-the main route through the national monument. This view shows the massive cliffs of the Wingate Sandstone above the red, shaley slopes of the underlying Chinle Formation. Gray Precambrian-age rocks are exposed inside the loop in the road and along the stream bed. The very cap of the cliff consists of another Lower Jurassic-age sandstone called the Kayenta Formation.
