| This view is looking south from the Ottos Trail towards the flat-lying sedimentary rocks on the south side of the monocline. The red slope at the base of the cliffs is the Chinle Formation (Late Triassic), the lower massive sandstone cliff is the Wingate Formation (latest Triassic to early Jurassic), and the cliff-top layered sandstone and slope forming units of the Kayenta Formation (early Jurassic). Another red, massive sandstone above the Kayenta is the Entrada Sandstone of middle Jurassic age. The forested top of the escarpment consists of younger Jurassic-age sedimentary formations. |
