Black Canyon of the Colorado River cuts through rugged terrane mostly of Tertiary-age volcanic rocks and locally, metamorphic rocks (schist and gneiss) of Precambrian age. The Black Mountains are on the Arizona (east) side of the canyon, and the Eldorado Mountains on the Nevada (west) side of the canyon. This zoomed-in view is looking south from the east side of Hoover Dam. |
