| The Sun Temple has been interpreted to be a ceremonial structure—it lacks doors, windows, and fire pits commonly seen in dwellings. The structure was never completed; apparently the construction stopped when the Anasazi people began to leave the region. Mesa Verde was completely abandoned by 1300 A.D. |
