Mesa Verde National Park
This view highlights the massive and uniform appearance of the Upper Cliffhouse Sandstone that forms the cap rock of the Cliff Palace at Mesa Verde National Park. The upland surface of the mesa is covered with a mixture of pinyon pine, juniper, and gamble oak. At the climax of the Anasazi's Classic Period, the mesa top was probably stripped of most of its forest and was used as agricultural dryland-style farming and water catchment areas.
