| This view shows the Utah Highway 95 cut through Comb Ridge, about 15 miles east of Natural Bridges National Monument. Comb Ridge is a long, linear north to south-trending monocline—a large structural fold in the crust. Sedimentary rock formations of Triassic age (Moenkopi, Chinle, and Wingate Formation) form the escarpmenet on the east side of Comb Wash Valley. The white sandstone in the foreground is the top of the Cedar Mesa Formation. The Cedar Mesa Formation gently dips eastward under the valley of Comb Wash. |
