| This view from along the Narrows Rim Trail shows the rugged rimrock of Cretaceous-age Dakota Sandstone and the extensive volcanic flows of El Malpais National Monument. The name "Narrows" applies to the historic narrow passage between the rugged lava flows on the west and the steep, inaacessible escarpment of sandstone of the Cebollita Mesa to the east. |
