SLAC.jpg - The "Standford Paleoparadoxia" fossil was discovered in 1964 during excavation of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The fossil was excavated and is mounted on display in the SLAC Visitor Center along with other fossils. This herbivorous marine mammal (like a "sea cow") lived in shallow marine bays along the coast during the middle Miocene Epoch (around 8 to 12 million years ago). Other fossils found along with this specimen include whales, porpoises, sea lions, sharks teeth, and an abundance of invertebrate shell material.
