View of Maverick Mountain from near Maverick Junction on Highway 188 near the park entrance. Badlands in the headwaters region of Terlingua Creek are eroding soft shales of the Pen and Aguja Formations. Maverick Mountain is eroded remnant of a large volcanic intrusive complex of Tertiary age.
