Outcrops throughout Bryce Canyon form in the Claron Formation (strata formed from sediments deposited in a lake in the early Tertiary, between about 63 and 40 million years ago). Modern erosion of the Claron Formation gives the Bryce Canyon area landscape its unique characteristics. This image was taken along the Mossy Cave Trail area along Highway 12.
