Below the dam to Lees Ferry, the canyon consists entirely of massive Navajo Sandstone of Late Triasssic to Early Jurassic age (roughly 220 to 180 million years ago). This thick section of sandstone is part of the Glen Canyon Group which includes both the Navajo Sandstone and the Page Sandstone at the top of the canyon. |
