Nonconformity at Steamboat Rock State Park
The boundary between the older granitic rocks and the younger basalt flows is called an unconformity (an unconformity represent a period over time when erosion or non-deposition occurred). It is technically called a "nonconformity" - a type of unconformity where igneous rocks overlie older rocks of undifferentiated age or origin.
