Halema'uma'u Crater. Lava at the base of the crater is from a 1974 eruption. Yellow stains on the rocks are from sulphur-rich mineral accumulations near steam vents. Offerings to the Hawaiian goddess, Pele, are often placed along the rim of this crater.
