This small memorial park on Washington Boulevard is an Ohlone Indian burial ground where, according to a local marker on the site, as many as 4,000 Ohlone people were buried. The location of Mission San Jose was chosen because of its proximity to a large native population in the South Bay region that subsisted off the abundant food supply of the South Bay and oak woodlands of the Diablo Range nearby. This burial ground is about 0.5 mile west of Mission San Jose and 0.5 mile from the Hayward Fault. |
