Painted Hills Unit, John Day Fossil Beds National Monument
This exposure is located along the road about one-half mile north of the Leaf Hill Trail parking area. The brightly colored outcrops consist of rhyolite tuff of the upper Clarno Formation and red beds (fossils soils) of the lower John Day Formation.
