Coachella Valley Preserve
Smoke trees (Psorothamnus spinosus) grow in many of the streambeds in the Colorado Desert environment. They occur throughout the Coachella Valley and in washes in lower areas within Joshua Tree National Park. The pale-blue and brown stick-like leaves of the plant give it a smoky character. It produces purple flowers in June.
