| Biskra Palms Grove is located about 5 miles south of the Thousand Palms Oasis visitor center in the Coachella Desert Preserve between Indio and Palm Springs. The palm grove is only accessible by an unmarked 4-wheel drive road (and is not a recommended destination in warm weather!). However, the grove is located in a geologically interesting area: it is near the intersection of the intersection of the Mission Creek Fault and Banning Fault strands of the San Andreas Fault system. This view is looking down into a wash at where Desert Fan Palms thrive on a shallow groundwater supply. |
