Gneiss boulders along the Ryan Mountain Trail
This large block of gneiss is near the intersection of the Ryan Mountain Trail and the Sheep Pass Campground access trail. The flanks of Ryan Mountain are covered with talus and colluvium (rocky soil) derived from ancient metamorphic rocks and the granitic plutons that intruded them.
