Cholla Garden, Pinto Mountain, and Pinto Basin
This view is looking east from the Cholla Garden toward the valley of Pinto Basin. Pinto Mountain is on the left. During the period between 4,000 to 2,000 years a wetter climate in the region supported a relatively stable human population (called Pinto Man). The population vanished about 2,000 years ago, leaving behind a rich archeological record. Archeological sites in the Pinto Basin wash area are protected and inaccessible without permission from the National Park Service.
