A grass-covered rolling landscape with many small landslides
Small landslides are scattered across the grassy slopes of Santa Rosa Island (Channel Islands National Park). Many small landslides occurred throughout the Channel Islands and nearby mainland during a series of winter storms early in 1999. The landslides occurred in a region where the surface soil is underlain by soft sedimentary rocks (Monterey Formation).
