A talus slope at the base of a cliff of sedimentary rocks (Monterey Formation) along Arroyo Seco Canyon (Monterey County). The talus slope formed from the ongoing breakdown of the sedimentary rock exposed in the cliff. Rockfalls occur frequently enough that plans don't have the opportunity to become established on the talus slope below the cliff.
