This grassy field is soon to be home to a new National Park Visitor Center for the West Side of Pinnacles National Monument. The site provides an exceptional view of the High Peaks portion of the park where Tertiary volcanic rocks crop out. Elevations in the High Peaks area are about 800 m (2,700 ft).
