This view from the Tunnel Trail is looking down (west) toward the Chaparral parking area on the west side of the park. Chaparral and scrub oak forests blanket the lower hillsides in the region. The hills east and north of the park are underlain by Cretaceous-age granite that weathers differently than the Tertiary volcanics in the park.
