Massive  boulders along Chalone Creek

Episodic flash floods carve the canyons in the valleys in the Pinnacles area. The massive cliffs of volcanic tuff shown here display large blocks of pre-existing rocks that was blown out of the volcano and add texture to the weather surfaces of the rock. The rhyolite tuff probably solidified from a semi-molten state after the eruption. Humans present for scale.
