The
geometry of this section of the seacoast at Palomarin Beach shows that a large
slump block is slowly slipping seaward. The trace of the slump escarpment
is defined by the small valley at the right. Also note the synclinal folded
beds exposed on the wave-cut bench at sea level. The diagram at right, modified
from Cruden and Varnes, 1996, demonstrates the slip and rotation of a block,
and the resulting dip of the beds.
