Grand View overlook is located along the western rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. The overlook is located midway along the one-way Canyon Village road. The canyon is cut into early Quaternary volcanic rock formed in the early, massive caldera eruption period. The ridge in the upper left distance is the northern rim of the caldera.
