Hayden Valley is part of the Yellowstone River valley between Yellowstone Lake and Upper Falls. The natural prairie is a prime wildlife viewing area. The prairie is underlain by glacial till and outwash deposited by piedmont glaciers that extensively covered the parts of the Yellowstone throughout the Quaternary Period.
