Minerva Terrace is located in the lower terraces portion of the greater larger Mammoth Hots Springs system of springs and deposits. Brightly colored mineral and thermophilic bacteria and algae give the active springs their color, whereas when they dry out the remaining travertine is typically white to gray in color.
